South Carolina has produced some of the best golfers in the nation, both on the collegiate and professional level, and a few of its cities — such as Charleston — are nationally known as premier golfing destinations. Generations of champions have been raised here, but we want to showcase just a handful of golf professionals from South Carolina that have made a name for themselves and for this state.

1. Bill Haas

Raised in Greer, SC | 2011 FedEx Cup Champion

Bill Haas, the son of golfer Jay Haas, comes from an avid golfing family and grew up in Greer, South Carolina. After graduating from Wake Forest University in North Carolina with high acclaim, he turned pro in 2004. He also hosts the annual Bill Haas Charity Classic at Greenville Country Club.

2. Kyle Thompson

Raised in Easley, SC | 2015 Rex Hospital Open Champion

When he was golfing with the University of South Carolina, Kyle Thompson was named an All-American in 1999, 2000, and 2001. He has since played on the PGA Tour, won the Rex Hospital Open in 2007, 2011, and 2015, and won the 2007 Oregon Classic. He currently lives in Greenville, SC.

Raised in Columbia, SC | 1986 Southern Open Champion

Another USC graduate and All-American, Fred Wadsworth was inducted into the South Carolina Athletics Hall of Fame and was featured on a “Golf in America” episode on The Golf Channel.

4. Henry Picard

Lived in Charleston, SC | 1938 Masters Tournament Champion

Henry Picard made a name for himself in the 1930s, winning 25 PGA Tour events between 1932 and 1945, The Masters Tournament in 1938, and a PGA Championship in 1939. He was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2006.

5. Beth Daniel

Raised in Charleston, SC | 1990 Mazda LPGA Championship Winner

Since becoming a member of the LPGA Tour in 1979, Beth Daniel has won 33 tour events, LPGA Rookie of the Year (1979), multiple Player of the Year awards, and an LPGA championship (1990). She has been inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame.
